This is a hands‑on role, with the Bar Manager predominantly based on the floor. You will lead by example during service, support the team in real time and maintain a strong presence throughout the venue to ensure consistent standards and an excellent guest experience.
The Opportunity
PITCH Middlesbrough is seeking an experienced Bar Manager to run day‑to‑day bar operations and help shape the venue as a leading local sports and social destination. This role combines strong people leadership with commercial accountability and a visible, customer‑facing presence. You will work closely with group colleagues to deliver promotional activity, maintain brand standards and drive sales while ensuring high standards of safety, compliance and guest care.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and develop the bar team — recruit, train, coach and rota team members; foster a positive, collaborative culture and maintain high standards of service on every shift.
Deliver exceptional customer experience — be present on the floor during service, resolve issues promptly, maintain product quality and ensure consistent service delivery.
Drive commercial performance — manage stock and margins, implement upsell and promotional activity, analyse sales and contribute to forecasting and local marketing initiatives.
Operational excellence — maintain opening/closing procedures, equipment checks, cash handling controls and accurate till reconciliation.
Compliance and safety — ensure licensing, age‑check procedures, food safety and health & safety standards are followed at all times.
Collaborate with group functions — work with Pneuma Group marketing and branding teams to deliver campaigns, build local engagement and ensure consistent brand presentation.
Manage supplier relationships and stock — order and manage inventory, negotiate with suppliers where appropriate and monitor waste and shrinkage.
Reporting and administration — maintain records, support payroll input, provide regular performance updates and assist with rota planning and cost control.
Person Specification
Proven bar or hospitality management experience — ideally in a high‑volume bar, sports venue or similar hospitality environment.
Strong leadership skills — able to lead a diverse team, develop talent and deliver consistent performance under pressure.
Commercially minded — focused on sales growth, margin management and delivering measurable results.
Excellent communication and customer service — confident dealing with guests, suppliers and colleagues at all levels.
Organised and reliable — able to manage stock, rotas, cashing up and compliance duties accurately.
Knowledge of licensing and safety regulations — demonstrable awareness of legal and regulatory requirements for licensed premises.
Flexible approach to working hours — available to work evenings, weekends and major live‑sport events.
